Grangewood School's Community Week events across Ruislip and Eastcote helped children to learn how important it is to support local people and businesses

Youngsters in Eastcote have celebrated the importance of being part of a local community with a series of events - from an art exhibition to a carnival.

In just one week pupils at Grangewood School, in Fore Street, Eastcote, travelled on a TFL bus and a RLR train with Transport for London and Ruislip Lido Railway.

They were also read a story at Eastcote Library, met Hillingdon firefighters and had a go at spraying a hose, and even put on an art exhibition in St Martin's Church Hall in Eastcote Road, Ruislip for visiting children from Warrender School in Old Hatch Manor.

The busy week of events was part of the school's Community Week - to encourage the children to think about the community outside of their school and the support that local people give to each other.

Marketing manager Vanessa Hoch said: "It was a fantastic week at Grangewood School. All the children, staff and people from the local community came together to celebrate the importance of the community to each other.

"There were so many opportunities given to our pupils by our local community to whom we are sincerely grateful."

The primary school, for children with severe to moderate learning difficulties, has been raising money to build a sensory garden for its pupils, which is set to open this summer.

The children created a colourful display of artwork to go into the garden, including spray painting umberellas.

Students from Haydon School in Wiltshire Lane, Eastcote, bounced into Grangewood's school hall to give a gymnastic display to the children before they took a fitness class at Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre in Hume Way, Ruislip.

The week ended with Carnival Friday where children danced, played music and released 50 multicoloured balloons into the sky.
